Job Introduction

We are looking for talented people with a passion for art and language to help lead our Interpretation team. Your editorial skills will help us shape the texts that introduce our audiences to exhibitions. Working alongside our curators and designers, you will ensure that the language we use in-gallery and online is fresh, lively and engaging.

The Editor: Interpretation will lead a small editorial team, based at Tate Modern. The team is responsible for all the texts in our exhibitions, commissions and displays. As Editor, you will lead discussions about the editorial direction that our exhibitions and displays should take. You will use your skills to provide editorial direction in an effective way.


You will understand the significance of organizational policy across a range of issues. You will contribute to debates that help shape our direction. You will also use excellent communication skills to relay our editorial guidelines and their implications to colleagues across a large organization. 

You will be an effective team-leader, able to guide your team to impactful outcomes. You will be able to indicate the relevant sources required to support problem-solving among the team. You will have what it takes to ensure that deadlines are met.

You will be an excellent wordsmith with highly developed English language skills. You will have advanced skills in grammar, understanding how to use language tools to refine, focus and polish text. You will have strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to build bridges between experts and audiences. You will ensure that high level curatorial knowledge reaches Tate’s broad public appeal. 

You will be a sensitive manager, understanding how to get the best out of your team by recognizing opportunities for growth.
